    Latin Alive! Book 3 (Student Edition) includes lessons on Roman culture, myths, and history, as well as Latin readings and exercises that will prepare students for the National Latin Exam and an Advanced Placement Latin course. It also features original Latin writings.

    • 16 biweekly chapters, each beginning with the Latin motto of a college or university, divided into 3 units.
    • Every chapter includes at least one reading, with an explanation of the phrases in the reading, a glossary, and comprehension questions.
    • Each unit ends with a unit reading (longer than the chapter readings) that includes some history on the piece, information on Latin literature, and a multiple-choice question section to check comprehension.
    • The last unit includes readings and lessons on original Latin poetry and historical information about Latin poets.
    • There are several appendices, including a pronunciation guide, reference charts, a guide to abbreviations, a list of noun cases and their common uses, and worksheets on parsing, declining, and conjugating.
    • Grammar includes more in-depth study of the subjunctive mood, irregular nouns, noun and verb reviews, the gerund and gerundive, impersonal verbs, conditional statements, and a study of different kinds of clauses (purpose, result, doubting, fearing).

    Karen Moore

    Karen Moore began her study of Latin in 7th grade and added Greek to her linguistic studies during her college years. She holds a BA in classics from the University of Texas. She earned her Texas teacher certification for Latin, history, and secondary education, and has also been awarded master teacher certification from the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS). Karen has more than 20 years of experience teaching Latin along with Greek and ancient humanities. She is the author of multiple Latin textbooks, including the Latin for Children History Readers A–C and the Latin for Teachers course, and coauthor of the Latin Alive! series, all published by Classical Academic Press. Karen has worked at Grace Academy in Georgetown, Texas, since 2002, where she has served in a variety of roles, including upper-school lead teacher, head of the Latin department, director of curriculum and instruction, and, currently, Classical Languages Chair. As a teacher, she has a unique ability to instill an enthusiasm for classical literature and languages in students of all ages and skill levels. Additionally, she has served numerous other schools through her consulting, teacher-training seminars, and speaking engagements at educational conferences.

    Gaylan DuBose MA

    Gaylan DuBose graduated with high honors from the University of North Texas in 1964 with a major in English and minors in Latin and history. He earned a master of arts in classics in 1970 from the University of Minnesota, where he had received a fellowship. He also studied at the University of Texas and at Worcester College, Oxford University. Gaylan went on to teach Latin in the classroom for 47 years. During his lengthy career, he was chosen as Teacher of the Year twice at Travis High School and once at Westwood High School. He also served as the academic contest chair for the National Junior Classical League from 1996 to 2005. After retiring in 2010, Gaylan continued to tutor students in Latin and Greek and elementary students in reading and mathematics. He taught many of the Latin Alive! online courses for Scholé Academy and served on the National Latin Exam’s Committee for Scholarship. In 2016, the American Classical League honored Gaylan with the prestigious Meritus Award. In his free time, Gaylan enjoyed volunteering at his local branch of the Austin Public Library and serving as the choir director, organist, and minister of music for his church. He was also the author of Farrago Latina: A Teacher Resource and coauthor of Excelability in Advanced Latin and the Latin Alive! series.
